To become a licensed Architect in Ontario, candidates must complete a professional degree in architecture or complete the RAIC syllabus. These academic qualifications must be certified by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board. They then complete the Internship in Architecture Program (IAP) which includes 3,720 hours of architecture experience, the Examination for Architects in Canada (ExAC) and the Ontario Association of Architects Admission Course which covers content relevant to the profession, such as legislation, regulations and professional business environment. IAP is considered a status with the OAA and signifies the candidate is working towards becoming an Architect in Ontario. Only after completing all these steps can a candidate apply for a license.
